It helps detect retinal problems including macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes or detachments and systemic diseases such as diabetes, stroke and high blood pressure. These conditions can lead to serious helath problems including partial loss of vision or blindness and often develop without warning and can progress with little or no symptoms.
The Opto-map is easy, painless and is viewed with you at your appointment. Some of the advantages of the Opto-map are: An annual, permanent record for your medical file, which allows for camparisons, tracking or diagnosing potential eye disease. An in depth view of the retinal layers (where disease can start) The ability to e-mail these images to outside referrals if needed. And last, it can often take the place of dilation, not always but in most cases, yes. |
